Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, Archaeological museum in Rose Garden, San Jose, United States.
The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum is an archaeological museum in San Jose, California, that brings together more than four thousand finds from ancient Egypt. The collection includes stone sculptures, wooden statues, burial goods, jewelry and inscribed papyrus scrolls displayed across several halls.
Harvey Spencer Lewis founded the collection in 1928 with finds that came from excavations at Tell el-Amarna. The current building in Egyptian style was erected later to house the growing number of objects.
The site takes its name from the Rosicrucian Order and today displays objects from households, workshops and temples along the Nile. Visitors see mummies, coffins and everyday items that explain how people worked, ate and buried their dead thousands of years ago.
The museum opens on weekends and on Fridays, with times varying slightly. Admission costs between eight and ten dollars and can be paid at the entrance in cash or by card.
A reconstructed rock-cut tomb chamber stands inside and shows what such a grave looked like in ancient Egypt. A digital assistant named Thoth, named after the Egyptian god of knowledge, answers visitor questions.
