Acorn Hall, Historic house museum in Morristown, United States.
Acorn Hall is a Victorian Italianate mansion on Morris Avenue with original furnishings, carpeting, wall coverings, and decorative painting techniques from the 19th century. The building preserves interior details from that era, showing how such homes were equipped and decorated.
Built in 1853 as a farmhouse by the Schermerhorn family, it was purchased by Augustus Crane in 1857 and remodeled in the Italianate Villa style in the following years. This transformation reflects how the rural property became a grand urban residence for a prosperous family.
The mansion shows how prosperous families lived in the 19th century, with rooms that reflect their daily activities and social customs of the era. The original interiors provide direct insight into Victorian life and how people used their domestic spaces.
Plan your visit by noting the opening hours and wearing appropriate indoor clothing, as the original furnishings require careful handling and are close to visitors. The grounds are easily walkable and offer a sense of how this neighborhood looked during the Victorian period.
Its name comes from an old oak tree that once stood on the property and shaped the site for generations. The location is also part of the Patriot's Path walking system, which connects multiple historic sites across the region.
