Acorn Hall

Acorn Hall is a Victorian Italianate mansion on Morris Avenue with original furnishings, carpeting, wall coverings, and decorative painting techniques from the 19th century. The building preserves interior details from that era, showing how such homes were equipped and decorated.

Built in 1853 as a farmhouse by the Schermerhorn family, it was purchased by Augustus Crane in 1857 and remodeled in the Italianate Villa style in the following years. This transformation reflects how the rural property became a grand urban residence for a prosperous family.

The mansion shows how prosperous families lived in the 19th century, with rooms that reflect their daily activities and social customs of the era. The original interiors provide direct insight into Victorian life and how people used their domestic spaces.
