Americus Hotel, 13-story historic hotel in central Allentown, United States.
The Americus Hotel is a 13-story building with yellow brick walls located in downtown Allentown, Pennsylvania. It has a grand ballroom with original 1927 chandeliers, along with dining facilities and a fitness center for guests.
The site started as a tavern in 1810 and later became the Northampton Inn before the current building was completed in 1927. Over more than a century, this corner of downtown Allentown grew from a simple roadside stop into a full hotel.
Murals by Philadelphia artist George Harding decorate the interior and reflect the decorative choices of the late 1920s. These paintings are visible throughout the building and give the spaces a distinct character tied to that period.
The hotel sits in downtown Allentown and is easy to reach on foot from the surrounding streets and attractions. The ballroom and other public areas are open to visitors, not only to hotel guests.
President Martin Van Buren stayed at the earlier building on this site during an 1837 visit to Allentown, making this one of the few spots in the city with a direct presidential connection. Van Buren was the 8th President of the United States, and his stay took place just months into his term.
