Bear Creek Lake State Park

Bear Creek Lake State Park is a recreation area within Cumberland State Forest featuring a 40-acre lake ringed by woods and facilities for outdoor activities. The grounds include hiking trails, fishing spots, and picnic areas throughout the property.

The site was established in 1940 by Virginia's forestry division and employed local workers during the period of economic recovery. It emerged as part of efforts to protect forest lands and create jobs in rural communities.

The Friends of Bear Creek Lake organization maintains the park's resources through volunteer programs and community engagement initiatives throughout the seasons.

Visitors can stay in tents or cabins with camping available from March through December and swimming permitted in the lake. The grounds are accessible on foot or by bicycle, with trails suitable for all experience levels.

The park connects directly to the adjacent Cumberland State Forest and provides access to a 14-mile multi-use trail system. Visitors can move seamlessly between the lake area and the broader forest paths.
