Blandford Cemetery, National Historic cemetery in Petersburg, United States
The cemetery spans 189 acres and contains over 30,000 graves, including soldiers from six different wars and numerous historical monuments throughout the grounds.
Established in 1819 after purchasing an abandoned church, the site includes the oldest marked grave dating back to 1702 belonging to R. Yarborough.
In 1851, the cemetery designated a specific section as burial grounds for people of color, representing an important step in Petersburg's social development.
The cemetery maintains an active burial service and offers guided tours where visitors can learn about military history and notable local figures.
The grounds feature an extensive collection of cast and wrought iron fences, considered among the finest metalwork examples in the United States.
