Celebrating the Arts, Steel sculpture at Roosevelt Creative Arts Middle School, Milwaukee, United States.
Celebrating the Arts is an abstract steel sculpture made of welded triangular sections that rise from three concrete anchoring points. The red and black structure creates geometric shapes that form a striking focal point within the school campus.
The work was created in 1989 by Indian artist Narendra M. Patel and funded through a bequest left by Linda Nice, a music teacher at the school. This commission honored her dedication to advancing arts education at the institution.
The sculpture sits on a middle school campus dedicated to arts education, bringing contemporary art into the daily experience of students who pass by it.
The sculpture is openly displayed on the school grounds and visible from multiple angles, making it easy to view during a school campus visit. Keep in mind that campus access may be subject to school policies or visiting hours.
The sculpture originally featured integrated lighting that illuminated it at night, but these fixtures were removed after vandalism occurred. This modification changed how the work appeared in the darkness and reflects challenges that public art often faces.
