Chapel Point State Park, State park on Port Tobacco River, Maryland, US.
Chapel Point State Park is a recreational area with over 800 acres along the Port Tobacco River, a Potomac tributary, featuring a sand boat launch and fishing zones. The grounds include walking paths that follow the waterfront and connect different sections of the park.
The land originated as part of St. Thomas Manor, a large estate established by the Catholic Church in the 1600s. It later operated as an amusement park from 1926 to 1948 with roller skating and bathhouse facilities before becoming a state park in 1972.
St. Ignatius Church next to the park has served Catholic communities since its establishment and continues to shape the religious life of this region.
The area is accessible by car with free parking and easy access to boat launches and trails. Visitors who fish need to bring a valid Maryland Bay Sport Tidal License.
The grounds were once part of a massive estate of thousands of acres granted to the Catholic Church in the 1600s. This historic property remained one of the region's largest private holdings for centuries.
