Columbia Country Club, Private golf course in Chevy Chase, Montgomery County, US.
Columbia Country Club is a private 18-hole golf course in Chevy Chase that features hilly terrain and narrow fairways demanding careful, precise shots from players. The property includes a clubhouse and has been updated with modern irrigation systems and facility improvements in recent years.
The club was founded in 1909 as a branch of the Columbia Golf Club in Washington D.C. and gained prominence when it hosted the U.S. Open championship in 1921. This early prestige helped establish its standing in regional golf circles.
The clubhouse serves as a gathering space where members meet for tournaments, meals, and social events that form the heart of the club's community life. These activities shape how local golfers experience their shared passion for the sport.
This is a private club requiring membership for access, so casual visitors should arrange advance permission before planning a visit. The well-maintained grounds with modern infrastructure allow for play in good conditions throughout the year.
Over more than a century, the club has had only four head golf professionals, creating remarkable continuity in instruction and management. This unusually stable leadership over generations is rare among golf clubs in the region.
