Dinosaur Gardens, Prehistoric sculpture park in Ossineke, Michigan, United States
Dinosaur Gardens is a sculpture park in Ossineke filled with hand-carved prehistoric creatures scattered across forested grounds that the Devil River runs through. The park displays more than 25 life-sized figures, including walk-through models of larger species.
Paul N. Domke Sr. founded the site in the 1930s by creating life-sized models based on his study of fossil remains in museum collections. The project grew from one person's vision to blend paleontology with craftsmanship.
The sculptures here blend scientific views of prehistoric creatures with spiritual messages that are woven into the landscape design. Visitors encounter this mix of nature study and faith as they walk through the grounds.
The grounds are best visited on warmer days, and the forest floor can become slippery after rain, so sturdy footwear is important. Plan to spend about two to three hours exploring all the sculptures and walking paths.
One main attraction is a walk-through Apatosaurus sculpture 80 feet long that contains interior decorations and religious imagery inside. This feature makes the site stand out as an unusual experience that blends natural history with handcrafted artistry in surprising ways.
