The caverns extend deep into the Blue Ridge Mountains, revealing formations of stalactites, stalagmites, and mineral deposits illuminated by strategically placed lights.
Two farm boys discovered the cave system in 1920 when their hunting dog Dixie fell through an opening, leading to its exploration and commercial development.
The bell-shaped flowstone formation within the cave has served as a ceremonial space for weddings since the cave opened to visitors in 1923.
The cavern complex includes a 44-dealer antiques mall, rock shop, camping facilities with RV hookups, and guided tours operating daily from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
The mineral shop at Dixie Caverns contains specimens from Virginia and international locations, making it one of the largest rock collections in the region.
