Edward Miller, a veteran of the American Revolutionary War, constructed this residence in the 1830s before its transformation into an inn in 1912.

The structure represents residential architecture from the post-Revolutionary War era and demonstrates the evolution of building practices in early American settlements.

The property, which once housed the South Shore Chamber of Commerce offices, received National Register of Historic Places designation on March 8, 1990.
