Elinor Bedell State Park, State park at East Lake Okoboji, Iowa, US
Elinor Bedell State Park is an 80-acre area along the eastern shore of East Lake Okoboji with different landscape types including prairie regions and wetland zones. The park offers walking trails through these habitats and several overnight camping locations along the waterfront.
The park opened in 1998 following a land gift from a former US congressman and his wife aimed at protecting this natural landscape. This donation marked the start of a planned effort to preserve this shoreline area for future generations.
The park serves as a place where visitors connect with the natural rhythms of the Midwest, with paths leading through different habitats. Many people come here to enjoy quiet moments and watch birds and other animals going about their lives.
The location is open year-round and has eight camping spots with full connections plus clean restroom facilities. Several trails are easy to walk and work well for visitors of different ages and fitness levels.
A raised walkway system guides visitors through the wetland area and lets them explore sensitive plant communities and wildlife habitats without damage. This setup lets visitors feel close to these ecosystems while keeping the plants and soil safe.
