Fiddler's Reach Fog Signal

The Fiddler's Reach Fog Signal stands as a pyramidal bell structure on the northern shore of the Kennebec River, marking a hazardous S-bend section.

Built in 1914 following the grounding of steamship Ransom B. Fuller, the station operated with a mechanical bell system that required rewinding every four hours.

The Range Light Keepers, a group of local citizens, took charge of preserving this maritime structure and installed a replacement bell in 2016.

Located 1,100 feet southwest of the Doubling Point Range Lights, the signal station covers an area of 0.13 acres on the riverbank.

The original bell, which produced two distinct strokes every twenty seconds, now resides at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.
