Kokand

Located at the crossroads of ancient trade routes in eastern Uzbekistan, Kokand stands at an elevation of 409 meters with rail connections to Tashkent.

The city transformed from a fort built in 1732 into the capital of Kokand Khanate by 1740, controlling territories reaching present-day Kazakhstan until Russian annexation in 1876.

The Palace of Khudayar Khan presents 19 preserved rooms that demonstrate the fusion of traditional Uzbek craftsmanship with Russian architectural elements from the 1870s.

The Juma Mosque contains 98 redwood columns from India and includes a museum of applied arts, remaining open to visitors throughout the year.

The city maintains a specific variety of pilaf preparation using devzira rice combined with garlic and hot pepper, distinguishing it from other regional recipes.
