Vũng Tàu, Port city in Southern Vietnam.
Vũng Tàu is a port city in southern Vietnam located on a peninsula that offers several beaches along the South China Sea coast. The city connects residential neighborhoods with fishing boat harbors and coastal roads that lead to small bays and forested hills.
Portuguese sailors established a checkpoint at the entrance to the Saigon River during the 15th century and named it Cap Saint Jacques. Later, the site developed into a seaside resort and strategic harbor under French administration during the colonial period.
The name Cap Saint Jacques recalls earlier Portuguese presence, while French colonial architecture remains visible along coastal roads today. Local fishermen sell their catch directly on the beach, and seafood restaurants along the promenade draw both residents and travelers.
The drive from Ho Chi Minh City takes around two hours via a direct expressway, and most visitors arrive on weekends or holidays. Beaches and viewpoints are easily reached on foot or by motorbike taxi.
A military museum displays around 2000 weapons from seven countries, covering a period from the 17th to the 20th century. The collection includes both light firearms and heavy artillery used in different conflicts.
