Bái Đính Temple, Buddhist temple complex in Ninh Binh Province, Vietnam.
Bái Đính is a Buddhist temple complex in Ninh Binh Province that spreads across forested hills and includes both older structures and modern halls. The site connects several prayer areas, landscaped gardens, and ponds that create quiet zones between the buildings.
A Buddhist sanctuary stood on this mountain during the 10th century under the Dinh Dynasty. In the early 21st century, the complex was expanded to serve as a venue for major religious gatherings.
The complex takes its name from a former monastery that once occupied the same hillside, overlooking limestone peaks. During major festivals, pilgrims travel from across the country to light incense and pray before the Buddha figures arranged throughout the prayer halls.
Electric vehicles carry visitors from the access road to the main buildings, since distances inside the complex are considerable. Those who prefer to walk should wear sturdy shoes and allow time for the uphill and downhill paths.
A long corridor houses 500 gilded statues representing Arhats, enlightened disciples of the Buddha, each with individual facial expressions and postures. A large bronze Buddha figure, covered in gold leaf, stands in the main building and ranks among the tallest in Southeast Asia.
