Firebase Bastogne, Former military firebase in Thừa Thiên Province, Vietnam.
Firebase Bastogne was a fortified artillery installation featuring bunkers, observation points, defensive earthworks, and helicopter landing pads positioned on elevated terrain along Route QL49 between Hue and Aluoi.
Established in 1968 by the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War, Firebase Bastogne served as a strategic fire support base to counter PAVN infiltration from the Ashau Valley and provide artillery coverage for allied operations.
Named after the World War II Battle of Bastogne to symbolize resilience and strategic importance, the firebase represents American military presence and sacrifice during one of the most turbulent chapters in modern warfare history.
The abandoned site can be accessed via southwest travel along Route QL49 toward Aluoi, where visitors can observe remnants of artillery positions, earthworks, and scattered military artifacts among the overgrown vegetation.
Veterans have discovered various artifacts at the site including pieces of claymore mines, jungle fatigues, boot soles, and sandbags, providing tangible connections to the intense combat operations that occurred there.
