Huis De Beuk, Forester's lodge in Gronsveld, Netherlands.
Huis De Beuk is a forester's lodge built from marl stone on the Wijngaardsberg ridge northeast of Gronsveld. The building occupies a high position that offers views across the western Maas Valley from the Margraten Plateau.
The building was constructed in 1848 from marl by the Martens family from Leuven and housed three generations of forest rangers from the Beuken family until 1938. After this date, it ceased to function as an active residence.
The location once served as a hermitage until 1818, leaving traces of its spiritual past visible in its secluded setting. Visitors often sense how the quietness of the place reflects this earlier purpose.
The lodge sits along several hiking routes, including a trail of roughly two hours from Gronsveld. Visitors should wear good footwear and allow time to explore the surrounding landscape.
The building nearly faced demolition in the 1980s but was restored in 1989 by volunteers from Wildbeheereenheid Savelsbos. This group continues to care for and maintain the structure today.
