Flåm Line

The Flåm Line extends 20.2 kilometers through the valley of Flåmsdalen, connecting Myrdal station at 867 meters to Flåm at sea level.

Workers constructed the railway line between 1924 and 1940, creating 20 tunnels primarily by hand, marking a substantial achievement in Norwegian engineering.

The railway line presents Norwegian mountain farming traditions through views of old wooden structures and agricultural settlements scattered across the Flåmsdalen valley.

The railway operates throughout the year with regular departures from both Myrdal and Flåm stations, offering connections to the main Bergen-Oslo railway line.

The railway track maintains a continuous 5.5 percent gradient across 80 percent of its length, making it among the steepest standard-gauge railways in the world.
