Øye stave church

The wooden structure features traditional Norse architectural elements with vertical posts, timber framing, and detailed carvings throughout its exterior and interior surfaces.

Originally constructed in 1180, the church underwent reconstruction in 1965 using salvaged materials from the initial building that was demolished in 1747.

The church contains medieval artifacts including a thirteenth-century crucifix of Christ and a wooden baptismal font from the 1300s.

The small parish church, operated by Vang kyrkjelege fellesråd, maintains an intimate capacity of 30 people for religious services and gatherings.

During renovations in 1935, workers discovered original stave church fragments beneath the floor, which were later incorporated into the current structure.
