Rjukandefoss

Rjukandefoss is a waterfall in Hemsedal split into two cascade sections that flow through a narrow gorge. The water is fed by the Mørkedøla river and drops steadily down the rocky terrain.

The waterfall formed through millennia of erosion as water and ice slowly shaped the rock formations. The gorge it flows through still bears traces of this ancient geological process.

Local residents maintain the trails and suspension bridge near the waterfall, preserving access to this natural formation for future generations.

You can reach the waterfall through a short marked path from a nearby parking area. Multiple viewpoints along the way let you see the falls from different angles.

The waterfall displays varying water volumes depending on the season and reaches peak flow in summer after snowmelt from the surrounding highlands. The cascades reshape themselves with changing water flow, offering different sights across different times of year.
