The park extends across 3.27 hectares at the western edge of downtown Bergen, offering views of Byfjorden and the surrounding rural landscape.
Businessman Edvard Germanus Johannessen established the park between 1888 and 1898 as part of a movement to create public green spaces in urban Norway.
A 10-meter wooden totem pole, given by Seattle in 1970 for Bergen's 900th anniversary, stands in the park as a symbol of connection.
The Nordnes seawater pool maintains a temperature of 29 degrees Celsius, while paths and benches throughout the park accommodate various outdoor activities.
The park occupies a peninsula surrounded by water on three sides, housing both the Bergen Aquarium and Norwegian Institute of Marine Research.
