Kvarteret

Kvarteret is a multi-floor building housing bars, event spaces, a cinema, a nightclub, a cafe, an auditorium, and a concert hall. These varied rooms allow students to run different kinds of gatherings and activities throughout the year.

A former university building was renovated in the mid-1990s and transformed into a student activity center. The conversion created a dedicated space where Bergen's academic community could host events and gatherings.

The center serves as a gathering place for students from Bergen's educational institutions, who use it to present music, theater, and debates. The spaces fill daily with young people organizing and running events together.

The place operates entirely through student volunteers who fill roles like bartending, sound work, and photography. It is easy to visit and welcomes anyone looking to enjoy the events on offer.

The name comes from an academic tradition of starting meetings 15 minutes after the scheduled time, a playful rule still observed today. This quirky timing convention gives the place its distinctive character.
