Nes Church, Heritage church building in Nes, Norway.

Nes Church is a stone structure located near where the Glomma and Vorma rivers meet in Akershus county, built with Romanesque design features. The site encompasses both the preserved remnants of the earlier building and a later structure constructed to replace it.

The original building dates to the medieval period around 1100, but was nearly destroyed by a devastating fire in 1854. A new structure was erected in 1860 to replace what the fire had damaged.

The grounds serve as a gathering place where local residents come together for religious services and community events throughout the year. It remains central to the life of the Nes municipality.

The site is accessible via marked pathways that allow you to visit both the preserved ruins and the newer building. You can walk around the grounds and examine the architectural features of each structure in detail.

Peter Høier Holtermann was the architect who designed the new building after the fire and left his mark on its design. His work reflects how Norwegian church architecture evolved across different generations.
