Nordstrand Church, Modern church building in Nordstrand, Norway
Nordstrand Church is a red brick building in neo-Gothic style with a tower that architect Georg Greve added in 1935. The structure underwent expansion in 2015 to accommodate more worshippers in its main sanctuary.
The building started as Østre Aker Chapel in 1866 and took the name Nordstrand Church in 1906 when its congregation was formally established. This change marked the community's growth and independence.
The interior stained glass windows by artist Frøydis Haavardsholm serve as the focal point of the space and reflect the artistic craftsmanship of the period. These pieces shape how visitors experience the sacred setting.
The building houses two organs that provide musical accompaniment and serve different roles in the space. Its location in the Nordstrand neighborhood makes it accessible as a community gathering point.
The main organ on the balcony contains 24 voices and demonstrates the craftsmanship invested in the musical equipment. A smaller instrument in the choir area complements this collection and reflects how music plays a role in the space.
