Bekkelaget Church, Heritage church in Bekkelaget, Norway
Bekkelaget Church is a stone structure in Oslo with a distinctive layout featuring a north entrance, south-facing choir, apse, and tower positioned beside the north gable. The building holds approximately 420 people and contains a 21-voice organ installed in 1986 by the Robert Gustavsson organ company.
This church was established after the 1913 division of Nordstrand parish, with construction beginning immediately and finishing in 1923 under architect Harald Bødtker. The new parish emerged to serve the growing religious community in the area.
The interior decoration was created entirely by Enevold Thømt as a unified artistic vision. Every element, from furnishings to ornamental details, works together to create a complete design scheme throughout the space.
Visiting is best arranged outside regular service times when the church is open to guests. Access and opening conditions may vary depending on the season and special events, so it helps to check ahead.
The grounds contain an urn cemetery established in 1937 and a rectory built in 1970 at one corner of the property. These structures reveal how the religious community developed and expanded over several decades.
