Bislet Baths, Heritage swimming facility in Bislett, Norway
Bislet Baths is a swimming and fitness complex in Oslo featuring Baroque revival and Neoclassical architectural elements. The spacious building houses swimming pools and training facilities operated to modern standards.
Architects Harald Aars and Lorentz Harboe Ree designed the facility, which opened in 1920 as one of Norway's most advanced swimming complexes. It marked an important step in the development of modern public bathing facilities in the country.
This building reflects the social value of public baths that emerged here as a place for community and health. The architecture shows how important such facilities were in urban infrastructure.
The facility is accessible through multiple entrances and offers both swimming and training areas. Visitor amenities are clearly marked, and there is ample space for changing and storing personal belongings.
The building was taken over by a private company in 2005 and remains one of the few surviving bathhouses from this era still in active use. Its early 1920s architecture has been surprisingly well preserved despite modern fitness operations.
