The protected area encompasses 364 hectares of mountainous forest terrain, featuring Mount Maganjan at 754 meters elevation near its boundaries.
The Philippine government established Kuapnit Balinsasayao National Park through Proclamation No. 142 on April 16, 1937, to protect the natural resources of Leyte.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources manages this protected space, working with local communities to maintain ecological preservation practices.
Visitors can access the park from Tacloban City by traveling 60 kilometers south along the Maharlika Highway through the municipalities of Abuyog and Baybay.
The forest shelters three bird species found exclusively in Eastern Visayas: the Samar hornbill, Visayan broadbill, and yellow-breasted tailorbird.
