Hazarganji-Chiltan National Park, National park in Mastung District, Pakistan
Hazarganji-Chiltan National Park is a protected area in western Balochistan featuring mountains and plains spread across multiple terrain types. The landscape combines forested regions, open grasslands, and mountain passes that create varied habitats throughout the park.
The name Hazarganji refers to legends about treasures buried in the mountains by ancient armies including Bactrians, Scythians, and Mongols who traveled through the region. These historical trade and invasion routes passed across the land over many centuries.
The Balochistan Wildlife Department manages conservation programs to protect endangered species like the Chiltan wild goat and Suleiman markhor from extinction.
The park is accessed easily from the city of Quetta, with accommodation available at facilities located within the protected area. Visitors should check conditions before traveling, as mountain weather can be unpredictable and some areas may be more accessible during certain seasons.
The park protects one of the last populations of Chiltan wild goats, a locally found species that nearly disappeared completely. Large predatory birds also use the mountain regions as key areas for hunting and nesting.
