Kórnik Castle

Kórnik Castle is a red brick structure featuring Gothic Revival elements set beside a lake and surrounded by landscaped grounds. The building displays ornate architectural details and houses art collections displayed throughout its interior spaces.

The structure began in the 14th century but received its current appearance through major reconstruction in the 1850s. A prominent architect oversaw this transformation, reshaping the building into what visitors see today.

The castle's name originates from Lake Kórnik, which has shaped the surrounding area for generations. Over time, the estate became a gathering place for Polish artists, scholars, and collectors who left their mark on its rooms and collections.

The castle and adjacent grounds can be explored together on foot, offering multiple pathways through both indoor and outdoor areas. Comfortable shoes are recommended as visitors will walk through rooms and across landscaped spaces.

One interior room was designed after a famous Andalusian palace, blending European architecture with Islamic design elements. This unusual mixture shows how 19th-century European collectors interpreted and displayed distant cultural influences.
