MEO Arena is a circular indoor venue in Parque das Nações with capacity for up to 20,000 people, serving as Portugal's largest arena of its kind. The building features flexible seating and stage configurations that adapt to different events, from concerts to sports competitions.
The arena opened in 1998 as a pavilion for Expo 98, the world exposition, and was initially called Pavilhão Atlântico. It received its current name, MEO Arena, in 2013 following a naming agreement.
The venue hosts concerts, sports events, and conferences that draw international audiences throughout the year. Visitors witness major cultural and technological gatherings that position Lisbon as a destination for global events.
The building sits beside Gare do Oriente station and offers direct connections to multiple metro lines as well as bus and train services. With good transport links, reaching the venue is straightforward for visitors.
The arena was designed by the renowned American architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and features an innovative ventilation system. The system uses natural air circulation to significantly reduce energy consumption while maintaining comfortable indoor conditions.
