Torre de Lapela, Medieval fortified tower in Monção, Portugal.

The square-shaped stone tower rises 35 meters high with walls measuring three meters thick, standing on the left bank of the Minho River.

King Afonso Henriques commissioned the castle construction in 1130, assigning Lourenço de Abreu as its first commander after the Battle of Valdevez.

The north facade entrance displays the Kingdom of Portugal coat of arms, positioned six meters above ground level as a symbol of royal authority.

The tower remains accessible by car or foot, located approximately 5 kilometers from Monção, with coordinates at 42.056444 latitude and -8.538056 longitude.

In 1706, King João V ordered parts of the structure demolished, using its stones to strengthen Monção Castle, leaving only the keep standing.
