Cabeço das Fráguas, Archaeological site in Benespera, Portugal.
Cabeço das Fráguas is an archaeological site located on a high plateau in Portugal. The place contains the remains of ancient walls, religious buildings, and fortifications from antiquity.
The settlement dates to the Bronze and Iron Ages and shows religious structures at its summit. In the 5th century BC, the highest point served as a center for religious and defensive purposes.
The inscriptions here are written in Lusitanian language and mention animal sacrifices to different gods. They show how the ancient inhabitants expressed their religious beliefs.
The climb from the northern side is steep and takes about one hour on foot. It is advisable to contact the Guarda Museum to arrange guided visits.
About twenty religious altars from the Lusitanian period were discovered at this location. This number exceeds the total number of altars found across the entire Salamanca region.
