Saboaria e Perfumaria Confiança

Saboaria e Perfumaria Confiança is a soap and perfume factory in the São Vítor district that developed its production techniques over multiple generations. The building houses production rooms where manufacturing still follows traditional methods, along with display areas that hold historical labels and product formulations.

The factory started in 1894 and first marketed products under foreign names before shifting to Portuguese brand names during the 1940s and 1960s. This name change reflected how local businesses reconsidered their identity and their connection to the marketplace.

The products on display reveal how people in Portugal shaped their daily routines and chose fragrances that mattered to them. The surviving packaging shows how tastes and brand preferences shifted from one generation to the next.

The site can be explored through organized tours that show how production happens and reveal the workshops in action. Visitors should set aside enough time to see both the active production areas and the collections of historical materials.

The company partners with a preservation initiative that maintains fifteen historic soap varieties from different phases of Portuguese manufacturing history. These formulas remain in active use and demonstrate how production worked across different periods.
