Lucian Blaga Central University Library of Cluj-Napoca, University library in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
Lucian Blaga Central University Library is the main library facility of the university in Cluj-Napoca, housed in a grand building designed by architect Kalman Giergl. The structure spans multiple floors with numerous reading rooms where both printed and digital resources are available to visitors.
The library was founded in 1872 and began with book collections from three institutions: the Law Academy of Sibiu, the Medical School, and the Government Archives of Cluj. These initial holdings quickly established it as a research center for the region.
The library holds rare collections of maps, engravings, and historical books displayed throughout its rooms, connecting visitors to centuries of local scholarship. The Codex Iustinianus from the 15th century is among the most valuable items housed here.
The library provides visitors with access to extensive book collections and modern digital databases in dedicated reading areas across multiple floors. A visit allows you to research in printed works while also working at the available computer terminals.
The library publishes Philobiblon, a scholarly journal that appears twice yearly since 1996 and presents research articles from various disciplines. This publication demonstrates the ongoing role of this place as a venue for knowledge sharing and academic dialogue.
