"Uphill" Holy Trinity Orthodox church in Cluj-Napoca, Romanian Orthodox church in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
The Holy Trinity Orthodox Church sits on a hill at Bisericii Ortodoxe Street 10 and features an octagonal nave with a 19-meter (62-foot) spire. The building displays Baroque style architecture and offers views over the city.
Two Aromanian merchants obtained permission from Vienna in 1790 to build the church and completed it between 1795 and 1796 in Baroque style. The completion marked the establishment of this faith community in the city.
The iconostasis was painted in 1796 by Constantin the Painter from Șcheii Brașovului as a gift from Brașov merchants. This artwork reflects the strong commercial ties between different Romanian towns during that period.
The church is open for visits and services and underwent substantial restoration work between 2003 and 2010 to address structural issues. Visitors should expect to find a well-maintained building that reflects these comprehensive renovation efforts.
From its consecration in 1796 until 1932, this was the only Orthodox church building in the city serving the entire community. It later became the first cathedral of the newly established Orthodox diocese, highlighting its spiritual importance.
