Dealul cu Lilieci Cernătești

Dealul cu Lilieci Cernătești is a protected nature reserve in Buzău County covering roughly 11 hectares of hillside. Wild lilac shrubs grow among oak trees of two species, creating a landscape shaped by these woody plants and their blooms.

The area received official protection in 2000 to preserve the wild lilac plant species found there. This designation marked an important moment in safeguarding the botanical diversity of the region.

The hill served as a settlement and spiritual center across different eras. Ruins of an early Christian church scattered across the ground tell stories of communities who made this place their home long ago.

The reserve sits along county road DJ203K between Săpoca and Vlădeni, with signs marking the way from Cernătești church. Wear sturdy shoes since the terrain is uneven and ground conditions vary depending on the season.

The hill hosts heat-loving species that thrive in warmer climates, making it an unusual ecological pocket within this region. Termite colonies establish themselves here, a sign of the distinctive microclimate found on this particular slope.
