Maloyaroslavets, Historical city in Kaluga Oblast, Russia.
Maloyaroslavets is a town in Kaluga Oblast, Russia, sitting on the right bank of the Luzha River. The settlement lies roughly 60 kilometers northeast of the regional capital and 130 kilometers southwest of Moscow, surrounded by fields and smaller woodlands.
The settlement arose in the late 14th century under the rule of Prince Vladimir the Bold. In 1485 it received its current name to distinguish it from the larger city of Yaroslavl in the north.
The settlement takes its name from an older community and refers to Prince Yaroslav, who ruled here in medieval times. Locals today often call the town simply Malojar, a shorthand that shapes daily life among residents.
Access to the town follows the M3 highway, which connects Kaluga to Moscow and runs through the eastern quarters. The local railway station offers connections in both directions, and the center is within walking distance from there.
The 1812 battle unfolded on ground that today lies beneath residential neighborhoods and smaller parks. Visitors find scattered monuments and information panels recalling the military events, without these dominating the everyday atmosphere.
