Rurikovo Gorodische, Archaeological settlement near Veliky Novgorod, Russia.

Located on the Volkhov River bank, this archaeological site contains remnants of ancient fortifications, dwellings, and a 12th-century church of Annunciation.

The settlement served as the primary residence for princes of Novgorod during the 9th century, before the establishment of the current city center.

Archaeological excavations at the site revealed numerous artifacts that demonstrate the interconnections between Slavic populations and Viking communities in medieval times.

The site stands 2 kilometers south of Veliky Novgorod center, making it accessible through guided tours that explain the historical significance.

The location features original foundations of an 8th-century fortress constructed by Ilmen Slavs, with wooden walls built upon an elevated mound.
