Skolkovo Innovation Center, Science park in Moscow, Russia
The Skolkovo Innovation Center is a science park in the Odintsovsky District of Russia, with research facilities, office buildings, residential quarters, and experimental zones spread across an extensive site. The complex is organized into thematic sections for different technology branches, with each sector housing its own laboratories and workspaces.
The Russian government founded this center in 2010 under President Dmitry Medvedev as part of a program to encourage technology and science. The development of the site occurred in several phases, with the first buildings completed a few years after the project was announced.
Researchers from different countries work here in laboratories and offices, with cooperation focused on five areas: information technology, energy research, nuclear technology, biomedicine, and space exploration. The campus connects scientists with entrepreneurs and students in a shared working environment that encourages knowledge exchange and joint projects.
Visitors are advised to check access regulations in advance, as many areas are accessible only to registered researchers and invited guests. Some public events and conferences take place in certain buildings, where prior registration may be required.
The center maintains partnerships with several Nobel laureates who serve as advisors and mentors to researchers working on site. It is the first new Russian science city built from the ground up after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
