Znamenskoye-Rayok

Znamenskoye-Rayok is a neoclassical estate in the Tver region with a substantial main residence. The main house connects to side wings through a curved colonnade of 136 columns that vary in height, creating a unified and symmetrical composition.

General Fyodor Glebov commissioned architect Nikolai Lvov to design this estate in 1787, starting a long construction process. The main residence was completed at the end of the 1790s, marking the conclusion of its ambitious architectural vision.

The estate blends Russian and Italian design ideas in its structure and spaces. Visitors can observe how these influences shape the rooms, particularly in the thoughtful placement of windows and the flow between different areas.

The estate is open to visitors from Wednesday through Sunday in the daytime. Since it sits in rural countryside away from major towns, having your own transportation is essential to reach the location comfortably.

The residence features unusual room layouts engineered with heating and ventilation systems that were advanced for their era. One distinctive element is a specially designed floor built specifically for dancing.
