Tarkhany

The Tarkhany estate extends over 196 hectares and includes a manor house, the Church of Mary of Egypt, and numerous historical buildings from the 19th century.

The estate belonged to Elizaveta Arsenyeva, grandmother of poet Mikhail Lermontov, where he spent his childhood before his death in a duel in 1841.

The estate museum holds 29,000 artifacts, including 14,500 primary items documenting the life and literary legacy of Mikhail Lermontov in early 19th century Russia.

The museum complex offers guided tours through the manor house, servant quarters, and church, with special video presentations about Lermontov's poems in the servants' house.

Every first weekend of July, the estate hosts a national Lermontov festival, bringing together artists and writers, concluding with the presentation of the Mikhail Lermontov Literary Prize.
