Dynasty Foundation, Russian private nonprofit organisation
The Dynasty Foundation is a nonprofit organization in Moscow established in 2002 to support science and education in Russia. It ran approximately fifteen open competitions each year and distributed grants to young scientists, students, and teachers in fields such as physics, biology, and mathematics.
The foundation was established in 2002 by Dmitry Zimin, a former telecommunications company leader, to provide private funding for scientific research in Russia. After 2013, regulations tightened against organizations receiving foreign support, leading it to be designated a foreign agent in 2015 and eventually to cease operations.
The organization became a symbol of independent science and education in Russia, showing how private support could advance research and learning. Its work demonstrated the importance of philanthropy in creating opportunities for talented minds across the country.
The organization was located on Tverskaya-Yamskaya Street near central Moscow, making it accessible for partners and visitors. Since it did not welcome the public in a traditional sense, understanding its work was primarily possible through published reports and competitions that scientists and students could enter.
In 2012 the organization joined the European Foundation Centre, becoming the only Russian member in this network and reflecting its connection to international philanthropic groups. Founder Dmitry Zimin was the first Russian to receive the Andrew Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy in 2013, a rare honor for his contributions to science and education.
