The Krasnopresnenskaja Observatory features a round tower and a two-story wooden observer house within the Moscow State University grounds.
The observatory began operations in 1831 following a proposal by Dmitri Perevóschikov, with construction costs reaching 53,121 rubles at that time.
The facility maintains an extensive collection of astronomical instruments, including a preserved 15-inch double astrograph telescope from its early research period.
Modern researchers at the observatory conduct studies in celestial mechanics, cosmic rays, and solar observations through the Sternberg Astronomical Institute.
The observatory houses historical archives containing astronomical data and observations made by numerous scientists throughout its operational history.
