Kyarovo

Kyarovo is a historical estate on the right bank of the Cherma River, about 9 kilometers north of Gdov, near the village of Verkholyane-1. The property is now defined mainly by its church and cemetery, which remain the primary features visitors can see at this location.

The estate was acquired in 1801 by General Peter Petrovich Konovnitsyn when he married Anna Ivanovna Korsakova, using it as his main residence. The Pokrovskaya Church, built shortly before this period, became the central structure of the property.

The Pokrovskaya Church was built in 1788-1789 and served as a burial vault for the Konovnitsyn family, with numerous graves preserved inside. The cemetery surrounding the church shows how important this place was to the local family and remains a testament to their presence in the region.

The location is best reached on foot as the estate sits in a river valley near the village. Visitors should know that the grounds are generally accessible, but it is wise to check local conditions beforehand to avoid unexpected obstacles.

The name Kyarovo comes from a Russian word for cow, as the land was originally used as a cattle farm. This humble beginning shows how the property eventually became a wealthy estate.
