Mytishchi Puppet Theatre "Ognivo", puppet theatre in Mytishchi, Russia
Mytishchi Puppet Theatre 'Ognivo' is a puppet theatre located in Mytishchi near Moscow. The house features an intimate performance space with a small stage, colorful figures in costumes, and shows for children and adults, with over 90 different productions created since its founding.
The theatre was founded in 1992 and named after Andersen's fairy tale, which was its first production. It developed into the first professional municipal theatre in the region and received multiple 'Golden Mask' awards, a major prize for theatrical art in Russia.
The theatre's name comes from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale 'The Tinderbox', which was the first production and shaped the artistic direction of the house. Performances blend classic fairy tales with contemporary stories that bring visitors of all ages together in a close, shared space.
Performances take place mainly on weekends and during school holidays, with the theatre presenting around 240 shows per year. The close distance between stage and audience allows visitors to see all details of the puppet play clearly and experience the story from up close.
The building was renovated in 2004 with a new stage and modern equipment to enable more expressive performances. This modernization preserved the intimate character of the space while creating technical possibilities for more creative and lively productions.
