Marat

Marat is an administrative governorate in the Riyadh Region, situated at 600 meters elevation in fertile land roughly 175 kilometers northwest of the capital. The territory contains residential areas, commercial zones, and agricultural lands spread throughout the region.

The founder of modern Saudi Arabia began constructing a palace here in the mid-20th century, establishing it as an important administrative center for the region. This early development shaped how the area grew and its role in local governance.

The governorate maintains traditional Saudi administrative structures with a governor and deputy governor overseeing local affairs and community development.

The region is most easily reached via Qiddiya Road, which provides direct connection to Riyadh. Visitors should note the area has some elevation changes, and the best time to explore is during the cooler months.

Mount Kemit south of the area features an unusual red-black coloration and has served as a reference point in regional poetry and stories for generations. This geographic feature often goes unnoticed by visitors despite its place in local tradition.
