Jizan Port, Maritime port in Jizan, Saudi Arabia
Jizan Port is a cargo and passenger port on the southwestern coast of Saudi Arabia, facing the Red Sea. It has separate terminals for containers, bulk goods, and general cargo, along with a customs and logistics zone.
Jizan Port was developed during the 20th century to strengthen Saudi Arabia's trading links across the Red Sea. Its facilities were expanded over the decades to handle growing ship traffic and new types of freight.
The port is a meeting point for local fishermen who dock their boats in areas set aside from the main cargo operations. Early mornings on the quay are when the catch comes in and gets sold at the nearby fish market.
The port is an active working facility and public access is limited, so any visit usually requires prior authorization. Going outside of peak freight periods means less activity around the main docks and easier movement near the entrance areas.
Jizan Port is one of the few Red Sea ports that handles both commercial freight and ferry services to Eritrea and Yemen. These crossings have run for decades and allow passenger travel across borders that are otherwise hard to reach by land.
