Bråborg Castle, Royal castle ruins in Norrköping Municipality, Sweden.
Bråborg Castle is a royal residence turned to ruins on Bråviken bay, with foundations covering an area of about 240 by 190 meters. Visitors can still observe old cellars, protective ditches, and remnants of Renaissance gardens spread across the site.
Queen Gunilla Bielke built the castle between 1588 and 1590 and lived there until her death in 1597. A Russian army later destroyed it in 1719 during a conflict.
The castle emblem of Queen Gunilla Bielke can still be seen displayed in a merchant house on Norrköping's market square. This symbol connects visitors to the memory of the queen who built and lived here.
The protective ditches surrounding the site are partly still visible, though they have filled with silt over the centuries. Visitors should expect uneven ground and wet areas, especially after rain.
After the Russian destruction, local residents salvaged stone and materials from the ruins to rebuild their own homes in Norrköping. Parts of the royal castle were thus incorporated into city buildings.
