Händelö gård, Manor house in Norrköping, Sweden.
Händelö gård is a manor house located on Händelö Island, built between 1850 and 1853 with neoclassical design and traditional Swedish architectural details. The estate includes the main residence along with several historical outbuildings and grounds that extend across the island.
These lands were first recorded in 1322 when Ingegärd Svantepolksdotter received them through a formal donation. The current building emerged during the development of the region in the 1800s.
The manor reflects how farming shaped this region, with old fruit orchards and historical structures still visible across the grounds. These features show the way of life that existed here generations ago.
The estate is located on an island and is best reached by car or on foot using local roads. Check with local tourism offices before visiting, as access and visiting conditions may vary depending on current plans for the site.
From 1986 to 1999, the estate served as a treatment center, a purpose quite different from its earlier function as a private residence. This transformation illustrates how historical properties can be repurposed to serve changing community needs.
